Atlas stands are made in Conegliano, near Treviso in northern Italy, by ATLAS SRLS. The company makes one thing: stands for the handpan, designed around the sound of the instrument.
The idea behind it, in Atlas's own words, is the quest for better sound. A stand should not absorb the instrument's vibrations: Atlas says its stand keeps the sustain instead of damping it, and that its hollow shape lets the sound flow out without obstacles.
The handpan sits on a floating disc with eight protected magnets under its contact points, so nothing rubs on the steel. It holds handpans of nitrided steel, stainless steel and Ember Steel, and a removable rubber collar centers the instrument. The body is 3D-printed and rests on a wooden base with an anti-tip pin.
The complete set covers every playing position. Without legs the stand rests between your knees; with the short wooden legs it reaches 50–60 cm for playing on a chair, and with the 41 cm extensions 90–96 cm for playing standing up. Screw-in levelling feet keep it steady on uneven ground.
